Fourni · Lasithi · Crete
Ntoukiani is a two-level stone house to rent in the heart of Fourni, 15 minutes from Elounda and 20 from Agios Nikolaos. On the ground floor: the kitchen, the table, the living room and a small WC. Upstairs: the bedroom, the shower room and the balcony. Above the bedroom, an οντάς loft with two single beds. Up to four guests.

The name
“I named it Ntoukiani because it was my grandfather’s kafeneio.”
Ntoukiani (say “doo-KYAH-nee”) is an old Cretan word, borrowed from Turkish, for the village shop-café. The stone walls, the beams and the door onto the lane are still here. Everything else was redone so that the house is good to live in, in August as in January.

Two levels
A spiral stair links the two levels; a short, steep stair leads up to the οντάς. Tap a room to go there.
One large room under the beams, with the original stone wall and the door onto the lane. You cook here, eat here, read here. In winter, the wood stove does the rest.
Enough to cook properly with what you bring back from the shops in Neapoli: induction hob, oven, dishwasher. And a Nespresso machine for the first coffee.
A small separate WC on the ground floor, so you don’t have to go upstairs every time.
Upstairs, under the wooden roof: a double bed, a proper desk, a wardrobe and curtains that make it truly dark for a siesta.
Above the bedroom, a short, steep stair leads up to the οντάς: a cosy mezzanine under a roof window, half open to the bedroom, with two single beds. The ceiling is low: mind your head. Children love it… from the age of 12.
A glass shower against the stone wall, and the washing machine within reach. The water is heated by the sun, with a heater switch for extra-hot showers.
South-facing, above the roofs of Fourni, with the mountain opposite and two young bougainvilleas starting to climb. This is where morning coffee happens.
Two stone levels on a quiet lane, the balcony above the door and the “Ntoukiani House” sign beside it. You have arrived.
Outside
Self check-in: the keys wait for you in a key box, and the code is sent to you by message. Free parking on the little square, 50 m from the door.

Good to know
The spiral stair and the steep stair to the οντάς are not suitable for children aged 2 to 12.
You climb a narrow stair to reach the bedroom and the shower room. Best avoided if walking is difficult for you.
Fourni is quiet at night: please keep voices low after 11 pm, in the house as in the lane.
Toilet paper goes in the bin, never in the toilet: otherwise the pipes block.
No smoking in the house, no pets, and no parties.
A camera films the outside of the house. None inside.
Bed linen, towels, basics and cleaning products: nothing to bring.
A few plants live in the house and on the balcony: please water them during your stay. The instructions are in the welcome booklet.
